They accuse A young man from Romania to have entered into NASA computers

A young Romanian suspected of having entered under a pseudonym 'Iceman' on computers of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) of NASA, near Los Angeles, hasbeen accused by the prosecution of a federal office.


Robert Butyka is accused of 'ciberintrusión' on 25 computers at JPL in December2010, which according to the indictment caused damage amounting to $ 500,000, leaving researchers unable to use their computers for two months.


The computers are part of the infrared atmospheric probe, which is used to support research on climate and improve weather forecasting.


Butyka, 25 years old Romanian citizen who called himself 'Iceman', was sentenced to three years in prison in Romania for a month after facing similar charges in his country.


It is unclear if Butyka currently serving that time in Romania, but U.S. authorities willseek his extradition to stand trial. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
